Off Trail and Winter Required Peaks

Trail-less Peak Canister

New gray summit canisters

The Catskill 3500 Club membership requirements include hiking peaks without trails and also requires climbing 4 trailed peaks again in the winter.

Off-Trail Hiking

These hikes are intensive and demanding and should only be undertaken by individuals with comprehensive backcountry navigation skills and those who have spent significant amounts of time hiking on trail. These are not hikes for the novice.

Winter Hiking

Winter climbing is one of the most rewarding experiences a hiker can have. It however can be among the most dangerous as the physical demands during winter hikes are significantly increased, require greater fitness and experience then the relatively pleasant weather found in the non-winter seasons. Winter comes early in the High Peaks! The Club requires winter hikers to bring snowshoes and full crampons to the trailhead for all winter hikes.
