Volunteers Needed for National Trails Day 2008
The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) is celebrating National Trails Day in the Catskill Forest Preserve on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Volunteer trail crews led by experienced ADK leaders will spend the day maintaining sections of trail throughout the Catskills.
Volunteers will meet at designated trailheads at 8:30 A.M. and will work until midafternoon. Tools will be provided by ADK. At the end of the work day, trail volunteers are welcome to join together for a well-deserved barbecue dinner including T-shirts, raffles and live music. Volunteers can also camp free at North-South Lake State Campground on Friday and Saturday nights.
Preregistration is required, and we ask that volunteers register at least
two weeks in advance.

Trail Projects:
- Ashokan High Point Loop (SWF): Sidecutting, drainage maintenance, and blowdown removal. 7.6 miles round trip (9 miles if loop is completed). Elevation gain: 2070 feet
- Bangle Hill trail (SWF): Sidecutting and blowdown removal to the summit of Bangle Hill and west towards Spencer Road on the southernmost section of the Long Path in the Catskill Park. 6.6 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1250 feet
- Giant Ledge-Panther Trail (SMWA): Starting at Fox Hollow, the trail will be sidecut on the approach to Panther Mountain. 8 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 2200 feet
- Giant Ledge (SMWA): Sidecutting, drainage maintenance, and blowdown removal to the trail leading to Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain from route 47. 6.8 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1545 feet
- Haynes Mountain (BIWA): Beginning at Rider Hollow, the trail to Haynes Mountain will be sidecut and blowdown will be removed. 5.1 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1480 feet
- Balsam Mountain (BIWA): Starting at McKinley Hollow, sidecutting and blowdown removal will occur on the trail to Balsam Mountain. 5.4 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1975 feet
- West Kill Mountain (WKWA): Sidecutting and blowdown removal to West Kill Mountain on the Devils Path. 8 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1600 feet
- Windham High Peak (WHPWF): Beginning at route 23, the trail will be sidecut and blowdown will be removed on the Escarpment Trail to Windham High Peak. 6.6 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1784 feet
